Stick Drift Tester
Catch It Before It Ruins Your Aim
Let go of both analog sticks and watch the dots below. If either one rests outside the small deadzone circle on its own, that's drift — caught in seconds, right in your browser.
Run the Drift Test
Connect your controller via USB or Bluetooth, then release both sticks completely. A red dot outside the dashed deadzone ring means the stick is reporting movement when it shouldn't be.

What Causes Stick Drift
Analog sticks report position using a potentiometer or Hall-effect sensor that measures the stick’s tilt. Drift happens when that measurement stops returning to true zero at rest.
Physical Wear
Repeated use gradually wears down the internal contacts of a potentiometer-based stick, causing it to report a slightly off-center resting value. This is the single most common cause and tends to appear after months of heavy use.
Dust and Debris
Dust or grime under the stick module can physically obstruct its full range of motion or interfere with the internal sensor, causing erratic or drifting readings. This is often fixable with careful cleaning.
Manufacturing tolerance and calibration drift
Even new controllers can have a slightly off-center calibration from the factory. Console and PC input settings usually include a calibration or deadzone adjustment step for exactly this reason.
How to Fix Stick Drift
Recalibrate the Stick
Most consoles and Windows have a controller calibration option in system settings — this alone resolves minor drift caused by calibration shift.
Update Controller Firmware
Manufacturers occasionally release firmware updates that adjust input processing and deadzone handling.
Clean Under The Stick Module
Compressed air around the base of the stick, or careful use of contact cleaner if you're comfortable opening the controller, can clear dust causing minor drift.
Replace The Stick Module Or Controller
If drift persists after cleaning and calibration, the potentiometer itself is likely worn and needs physical replacement — or it may be more practical to replace the controller.
